Larissa Leong is a lawyer and registered patent and trademark agent, with significant expertise in intellectual property law. She holds a degree in both computer science and pharmacology, which allows her to readily understand complex inventions. Larissa advises clients on the strategic creation, protection, commercialization, and enforcement of intellectual property rights, and develops global patent and intellectual property strategy, with significant experience in high-tech computer, life sciences and therapeutic, and chemical industries.

Larissa has drafted, prosecuted, and obtained granted patents for multinational and local clients in computer software and hardware, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, blockchain, natural language processing, computer vision, fintech, cybersecurity and encryption, telecommunications, database query languages and data management systems, search engine optimization, business methods, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, and oil and gas, among many others.

Larissa also represents clients in licensing, commercial agreements, joint development, software agreements, privacy matters, and brand protection, including trademarks, industrial designs, and copyright. In addition, Larissa represents clients in IP disputes, advising them in enforcement, freedom to operate, and infringement matters to safeguard their intellectual property.

Larissa serves on the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s Patent Practice Committee, which liaises with government to shape patent law and practice in Canada, and she also brings legal experience from a leading global law firm in Toronto and a major financial institution. Before law, she conducted research in artificial intelligence as well as medical genetics and mosaicism, receiving a research award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). While completing her law degree, she earned multiple awards for academic excellence and community service.
