Biography description
Peter Auvinen has practiced commercial litigation and insolvency law for over 35 years. He has considerable trial and appellate experience and has represented clients before a variety of tribunals and all levels of courts including the Supreme Court of Canada. Peter is known for his reliable judgment and advice in the dispute resolution context. He litigates tenaciously and aggressively when required but he also assists clients in resolving disputes when settlement is the best course of action.
Peter is the immediate past Chair of Miller Thomson and served on the Firm’s Executive Committee from 2013-2025. As the Chair, between 2019 and 2025, Peter oversaw significant reforms to the Firm’s governance and compensation systems and worked with other members of the Executive Committee to materially improve the depth of the Firm’s practice areas and services as a leading business law firm in Canada.
Peter has served as the Honorary Consul for the Government of Finland in Toronto for several years. In this role he has developed significant knowledge concerning bilateral trade and investment between northern European countries and Canada and he has supported numerous companies entering the Canadian marketplace from the Nordic region. Peter also represents the Canadian subsidiaries of companies from northern Europe doing business in Canada.
