Biography description
Liam Baines is a member of Miller Thomson’s Commercial Litigation group. Liam maintains a broad civil and commercial litigation practice, with a focus on commercial law, contract law, and security enforcement matters.
Prior to articling at Miller Thomson, Liam worked as a summer student at the firm. Liam obtained his Juris Doctor (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta in 2024. During law school, he was recognized on the Dean’s List and received several awards for academic excellence, including the Chief Justice Fraser Scholarship and the Darcy Readman Prize in Personal Property Security Law.
Before law school, Liam completed his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree (with Distinction) at the University of Alberta in 2020. During his Bachelor’s degree, he took part in the cooperative education program and worked in the manufacturing and construction industries. Liam’s engineering background provided him with various problem-solving and analytical skills, which he incorporates into his legal work.
In his free time, Liam enjoys walking his dog, reading, cooking for friends and family, and tending to his backyard chickens.
Liam regularly volunteers as Civil Claims Duty Counsel and as part of the King’s Bench Court Assistance (Amicus) Program.
