Biography description
Thao earned her Juris Doctor at the University Calgary (UCalgary). Prior to law school, she obtained a Bachelor of Management (with Distinction) at the University of Lethbridge and a Business Administration Diploma from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Thao then built a strong career in marketing, communications, and governance while working for a university-affiliated non-profit organization serving graduate students.
During law school, Thao was actively involved in the UCalgary legal community through her volunteer work with Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) Calgary and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) Western Chapter. Through PBSC, she initiated and led two projects focused on housing and tenancy issues, as well as a wills clinic serving Vietnamese seniors and single mothers. In recognition of her leadership and community contributions, she received the Chief Justice Richard Wagner Award from PBSC Calgary in 2026.
Thao also volunteered with several other student organizations, including the Student Legal Assistance, Society of Law Students, Moot Times, and OUTLaw.
Thao remains actively involved in numerous community initiatives, including serving as a board member of the Calgary Vietnamese Women’s Association.
