The Muttart Foundation, in collaboration with Miller Thomson LLP, released Paths Forward in Financially Troubled Times – A Restructuring and Insolvency Guidebook for Charities and Non-profit Organizations in December 2020.

The Guidebook laid out a number of avenues that groups can explore if they are financially stressed, including continuing operations in a different legal form or in a collaboration, revamping finances to survive immediate threats to viability, and wrapping up the organization and its functions in a prudent and reasonable manner.

This virtual panel with the publication’s authors to delved into:

  • considerations for Boards and management on the impact of COVID-19 and strategies for moving forward;
  • options to explore if a charity or non-profit organization is experiencing financial difficulties; and
  • how the landscape has changed since the release of the publication last year, and the implications for the charitable sector.
