Health professionals have a legal, ethical and professional obligation to obtain consent from the individual before providing treatment. Health organizations must ensure that they have appropriate policies and processes in place to ensure that informed consent is obtained, to address substitute decision making and advance directives.
This session explored core concepts of consent and capacity. It also reviewed Bill 7 amendments to the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Public Hospitals Act as it relates to consent and what this means for hospitals, long-term care homes, home and community care, patients and families.
