David Cichy practises exclusively in the area of civil litigation with a focus on commercial, product liability, tort, oil and gas, and insurance dispute resolution. He has significant experience in dealing with complex losses, claims, and disputes in the industrial, oil and gas, and commercial sectors, including the defence of several of Alberta’s largest lawsuits in the oil and gas industry.

David is a King’s Counsel, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006.

In 1990, David became certified by the Alberta Fire Prevention Branch in fire investigation (cause determination).. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also participated in various forms of alternate dispute resolution, and this has played a prominent role in effectively and efficiently resolving disputes for this clients.

Since the early 1990s, David has been effectively using computer technology as a litigation tool. David was a member of the Special Committee of the Alberta Court of Appeal dealing with the “computerization” of appeals.

David was born and raised in southern Alberta. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree magna cum laude in operations and system analysis from Brigham Young University in 1981. He graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1985 and articled with the Alberta Court of Appeal and Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench 1985-1986.
