Robert Hayhoe and Jordyn Allan prepared an article entitled:  “Cultural Property Eligibility Clarified by FCA and Parliament”, which was published in the Canadian Tax Highlights, July 2019 issue.

Robert Hayhoe and Susan Manwaring were ranked in the L’expert Guide to US/Canada Cross-Border Lawyers In Canada, June 2019 issue.

Susan Manwaring was recognized as the winner of a 2019 Lexpert Zenith Award. This year’s awards celebrate ‘Change Agents in Law’.

The BC Government is conducting a consultation on proposed amendments to the Societies Act (BC) which came into force on November 28, 2016.  The Societies Act sets out the regulatory framework for societies incorporated in British Columbia.  Related amendments to the Business Corporations Act (BC) and the Cooperative Association Act (BC) are also proposed.  Information about the consultation and the proposed amendments can be found on the government’s website.  Members of the public are being invited and encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed amendments.  The deadline for feedback is August 23, 2019.

For your information, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) provided the following update in their recent communication to Stakeholders:

  • In the spring charities information sessions, CRA met with over 1,350 representatives from charities in 15 cities. Participants are encouraged to complete the evaluation from the sessions.
  • CRA will be travelling to Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan in the fall. Registration will begin in August.
  • CRA has published a video series on gifting and recipient. To learn more, visit the CRA YouTube channel,
  • CRA also has a survey for members of the charitable sector to provide feedback on its communication and outreach products.
