- We are very pleased to announce that David Tang has joined Miller Thomson LLP as a partner in our Toronto office. David was the co-chair of the Charities and Not-for-Profit Law practice at his former firm and is currently the Chair of the Nonprofit Organizations Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. David’s practice in municipal, property tax and planning law has positioned him as a leader in the social sector for his work with charities and not-for-profits developing or redeveloping their real estate (both individually and in joint venture arrangements) and in obtaining property tax exemptions and refunds. He has particular expertise with religious organizations, trade associations, structuring relationships and affiliations between Canadian and international charities and advising on the governance of these organizations.
- Susan Manwaring has been named to the consultation panel that will make recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue to clarify the rules governing the political activities of registered charities.
- Ken Burnett, Brendan Burns and Sarah Fitzpatrick presented a seminar on “The New Societies Act in British Columbia” in Vancouver on September 22, 2016.
- Susan Manwaring and Andrew Valentine will be speakers at the 2016 National Conference of the Canadian Society of Club Managers in Chicago on September 30, 2016.
