Foundation Increases Scholarship Programme to $300,000
to Post Secondary Students Across Canada
Since 1995 $2.85 million has been awarded to 2,650
(June 22, 2011) — The Miller Thomson Foundation’s National Scholarship Program increases its
awards from $1,000 to $3,000 academic scholarships to 100 Canadian students1,
bringing its total contribution to $2.85 million awarded to 2,650 graduating
high school students since 1995. The award
recipients will be announced through an advertisement in the Globe and Mail’s Focus
Section on Saturday, June 25.
Miller Thomson Foundation’s National Scholarship Program was created to
recognize the achievements and aspirations of remarkable young Canadians,” says
Gerald Courage, Chair of the Miller Thomson Foundation. “With the launch of our 2011 National
Scholarship Programme, the Foundation increased the scholarship awards to $300,000
per annum. The scholarships encourage
and promote the attainment of the higher education goals of exceptional
high-school graduates who have demonstrated a high level of academic
achievement and have made outstanding contributions to their schools and
communities. The scholarships can be
applied to any area of study at any Canadian university or college.”

abilities, judges evaluate the candidate’s contribution to their school and
their community through their involvement in extracurricular activities. Contributions to the community may be
demonstrated by involvement in local clubs, organizations and community
activities or through after-school jobs that assist the candidate’s family or
fund the candidate’s education.
