It is with great sadness that the Charities and Not-for-Profit Group must report that Hugh Kelly passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Hugh was a true specialist in his field, with over fifty years of advising clients on charity and not-for-profit law and education law.
Hugh was dedicated to his clients and his colleagues. He loved the practice of law and his advice was well-informed and practical. Hugh was generous with his time. Hugh’s door was always open to share his knowledge and he enjoyed discussing and finding solutions to complex issues.
Hugh was committed to the legal profession, as a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada and York Law Association and a lecturer to numerous organizations including the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Institute of Law and Medicine.
Hugh was committed to his faith and the Catholic community. Despite his extensive knowledge he had great humility. We are all fortunate to have known Hugh Kelly.
Miller Thomson and the Charities and Not-for-Profit Group would like to pay tribute to Hugh and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
