It is almost the end of another busy calendar year. Most school boards have now sworn in their newly elected trustees, and trustees have determined who will chair their meetings. Accordingly, we thought that it might be the perfect time to review the responsibilities of school board trustees.
In the next Morning Recess webinar on Thursday, January 22, 2015, Nadya Tymochenko and Gillian Tuck Kutarna will discuss the responsibilities that Trustees have, when they have authority and when they do not, for what purposes they may use their authority, and what impact, if any, Bill 8 might have on Trustees specifically and the education sector generally. The Bill amends the Ombudsman Act to give authority to the Ombudsman to investigate complaints from anyone in the community and to make recommendations to school boards, which must be shared with the Minister of Education and may be shared with the Premier.
