In our first session, Update on the Changing Workplaces Review, we discuss the Ontario Government’s recent appointment of two Special Advisors for its Changing Workplaces Review with a mandate to “make recommendations on how the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (the “ESA”) and the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (the “LRA”) might be reformed to better protect workers while supporting businesses in our changing economy.”

On July 27, 2016, an Interim Report was released which identified numerous options concerning various elements of the ESA and the LRA which, if adopted, would fundamentally transform labour relations and employment law in Ontario. The Special Advisors are now seeking more input from interested groups before releasing their recommendations.
