Congratulations to Sandra Enticknap who was recently appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC). The appointments were announced at the end of December.
The QC designation is conferred annually on members of the legal profession to recognize exceptional merit and contribution. Candidates must demonstrate professional integrity, good character and excellence in the practice of law. Of practising BC lawyers, only up to 7% overall can be awarded this designation.
An Advisory Committee (which includes the Chief Justice of British Columbia, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the president of the Law Society of British Columbia, the current president of the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch, a Law Society of British Columbia member appointed by the benchers, and British Columbia’s deputy attorney general) considers a number of qualities in candidates including whether the candidate:

is acknowledged by peers as leading counsel or exceptionally gifted practitioner;

has demonstrated exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession, including in the conduct of the affairs of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of British Columbia and other legal organizations;

has done outstanding work in the fields of legal education or legal scholarship.
In addition to being recognized as a leading practitioner and authoritative speaker in her practice area of estate planning and trusts, Sandra’s nomination also highlighted her significant contributions to the modernization of BC’s succession laws and practices which resulted in the new Wills, Estates and Succession Act.
