KARIMA KANANI NAMED 2011 PRECEDENT SETTER
Making her mark among the best of the new generation of lawyers

TORONTO, ON (June 2, 2011) – Precedent Magazine named this year’s Precedent Setter Award winners, profiling six top-class lawyers in their first ten years of practice who are leaders in their practice areas and their communities. Among them is Karima Kanani of Miller Thomson LLP, also coined “The Collaborator” by Precedent Magazine.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2004, Karima, in only seven years with Miller Thomson, has excelled in her profession to take on a leadership role in the corporate/commercial practice in Miller Thomson’s Health Industry Group. She advises public and private sector healthcare and life science organizations of all sizes on corporate governance, corporate structuring and reorganizations, program and asset transfers, infrastructure development, procurement of goods and services, joint ventures and other general contractual matters. Karima is also an avid writer and speaker on current legal issues impacting organizations in the healthcare industry.

”Karima is a splendid example of a young lawyer with great talent, passion and a warm heart. She’s connected to our clients’ businesses and puts their interests first. We are proud to say that this precedent setter is part of the Miller Thomson team,” said Nora Osbaldeston, Office Managing Partner of Miller Thomson’s Toronto and Markham offices.

Karima’s passion for the health industry and success in advancing healthcare initiatives stem from the fact that, in addition to her law degree, she also holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Toronto. “When you are trained to understand human behaviour and interaction, I find that allows you to be more sensitive to people and their individual situations, » said Karima. “In my legal practice, this allows me to identify and appreciate the interests and priorities of our clients. I can then work with them to develop tailored strategies and solutions.”
