Julian Worsley is one of Miller Thomson’s leading life sciences lawyers and a registered patent and trademark agent. He advises his clients on drug and medical device intellectual property along with regulatory, commercial, and compliance issues.
Julian has experience in a broad range of issues concerning pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, natural health products, and medical devices.
Julian’s patent practice includes patent clearance and validity opinions, patent prosecution, and litigation. Julian’s patent litigation experience includes proceedings pursuant to the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations and actions before the Federal Court.
Julian routinely provides advice on pharmaceutical and medical device regulatory compliance matters. These include provincial formularies, the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board, and regulatory requirements relating to product manufacturing, advertising, marketing and distribution, GMP compliance and establishment licensing, product licensing, packaging, and labelling. In addition, he regularly advises clients on the regulation of healthcare professionals with respect to their interactions with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.
Julian advises his clients on federal and provincial access-to-information and freedom-of-information issues, specifically as they relate to pharmaceutical and medical device information held by government authorities. He also advises clients on various privacy issues pursuant to the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, as well as provincial legislation concerning personal health information.
Julian routinely assists his clients in their interactions with regulatory and pre-clearance agencies including Health Canada, the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board, the Ontario Public Drug Plans, the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board, the Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario, and the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada, as well as advising on judicial review of these agencies’ decisions.
Prior to studying law, Julian obtained a master’s degree in pharmacology, having studied the neurochemistry of drug addiction.
