John Griggs is a highly experienced lawyer in the area of corporate and commercial law. His practice includes mergers and acquisitions, the purchase and sale of privately held businesses, corporate reorganizations, the purchase and sale of commercial and residential real estate, wills, trusts, and estate planning and administration.
John acts for banks, trust companies, and other commercial lenders on a wide range of financing and secured loan transactions.
He also acts for local distribution companies in the supply and distribution of electricity to the public.
He regularly acts for dentists, doctors, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals.
John provides pragmatic advice and counsel in a number of areas:
Purchase and sale of dental practices: acting over many years for both purchasers and sellers of dental practices in both asset and share purchase and sale transactions.
Mergers and acquisitions: representing the owners of medium-size businesses and acting for them in the acquisition of new businesses and the sale of existing businesses.
Regulated professional corporations: incorporating new professional corporations for healthcare professionals and obtaining certificates of authorization from the relevant college.
Estate planning: acting for clients in the preparation of wills, dual wills, and continuing powers of attorney for property and healthcare and in general estate planning and estate administration.
Local distribution companies: acting regularly for LDCs on corporate matters, corporate governance, the provisions of the Electricity Act, and the obtaining and registration of easements.
Secured lending: acting for several banks on commercial loans to borrowers.
Real estate: acting for purchasers and sellers and the financing of commercial and residential real estate.
John has served his community through organizations including the Rotary Club of Waterloo, Kitchener, Waterloo Housing Inc., the Better Business Bureau of Midwestern Ontario, and kidsAbility Foundation.
