{"id":6703,"date":"2021-03-19T22:23:22","date_gmt":"2021-03-20T02:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.millerthomson.com\/competition-bureau-to-host-the-competition-and-growth-summit-in-june-2021\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T14:48:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T18:48:17","slug":"competition-bureau-to-host-the-competition-and-growth-summit-in-june-2021-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.millerthomson.com\/en\/insights\/competition-antitrust-foreign-investment\/competition-bureau-to-host-the-competition-and-growth-summit-in-june-2021-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Competition Bureau to host The Competition and Growth Summit in June 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Canadian economy is on the road to recovery after experiencing significant economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a decline in gross domestic product:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canada (5.4%)<a name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> and worldwide (4.9%);<a name=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an increase in unemployment:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canada (4%), North America (9.2%),<a name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> and worldwide (6.5%);<a name=\"_ftnref4\" href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a decline in foreign investment:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canada (34%),<a name=\"_ftnref5\" href=\"#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> North America (46%), and worldwide (42%).<a name=\"_ftnref6\" href=\"#_ftn6\">[6]<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to examine the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Competition Bureau (the&nbsp;\u201c<strong>Bureau<\/strong>\u201d) will host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.competitionbureau.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/cb-bc.nsf\/eng\/04576.html\">The Competition and Growth Summit<\/a> (the&nbsp;\u201c<strong>Summit<\/strong>\u201d) from June&nbsp;1 to&nbsp;3,&nbsp;2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Summit will consist of three virtual panels which will focus on: (i)&nbsp;the role of competition in driving economic recovery and growth;
