Registered charities must ensure they are equipped to interact with the CRA through its online platforms, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filing the T3010 Registered Charity Information Return;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submitting applications, amendments, and supporting documentation; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sending written inquiries to the Charities Directorate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The CRA has emphasized that online submission through CRA accounts is now the primary (and expected) method of communication with the Charities Directorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the practical implications?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Charities that have historically relied on fax, particularly for time-sensitive filings or correspondence, should take immediate steps to transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/e-services\/cra-login-services.html\">Access to CRA My Business Account<\/a> is now essential;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internal processes should be updated to reflect digital-only submissions; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boards and management should confirm that appropriate personnel have active credentials and authorization levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CRA support and transition period<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The CRA has encouraged charities to use the remaining transition window throughout the month of March to complete onboarding with <em>My Business Account<\/em>. Support resources provided by the CRA include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/charities-giving\/charities\/operating-a-registered-charity\/business-account.html\">Step-by-step registration guidance<\/a> for CRA online services;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Digital Concierge service offering one-on-one assistance (by calling 1-800-267-2384 and asking for the Digital Concierge); and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/charities-giving\/charities\/guidance-videos-forms\/charities-information-sessions.html\">Upcoming webinars on accessing and using CRA online systems<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our perspective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While this change may create short-term administrative friction for some organizations, it reflects a broader and ongoing modernization of the CRA\u2019s regulatory approach.
