New French language obligations for Qu\u00e9bec employers with 25 to 49 employees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The Charter of the French Language<\/em> continues to evolve \u2013 bringing with it new obligations for Qu\u00e9bec employers. One of the most significant upcoming deadlines introduced by Bill 96 affects businesses with between 25 and 49 employees: as of June 1, 2025, these companies must be registered with the Office qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la langue fran\u00e7aise (the \u201c<strong>OQLF<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This requirement marks the beginning of the francization process for thousands of medium-sized employers. It is part of a broader initiative aimed at ensuring that French remains the normal and customary language of work, communication, and business operations in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which Qu\u00e9bec Employers Must Register with the OQLF by June 1, 2025?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting June 1, 2025, if your company employs between 25 and 49 employees in Qu\u00e9bec over a six-month period, you must register with the OQLF within six months of the end of that period. Registration can be completed in advance by filling out and submitting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca\/francisation\/entreprises\/formulaires\/formulaire-inscription_rg.docx\">form (doc)<\/a> available on the OQLF\u2019s website (available in French only).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Employers Must Do to Register with the OQLF by June 1 ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the registration process, you will need to provide key information about your company, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>legal and business names, NEQ and addresses;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the number of employees and locations in Qu\u00e9bec;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>business activities and whether your operations are federally or provincially regulated; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contact details for your primary executive or OQLF liaison in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once registered, your company will receive a certificate of registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within three months of receiving this certificate, you must also submit a linguistic self-evaluation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca\/francisation\/entreprises\/formulaires\/analyse-linguistique.docx\">form (doc)<\/a> to the OQLF (the form is available on its website in French only). This assessment will evaluate how well French is integrated into your business operations, including internal communications, hiring practices, training, signage, IT systems, and external communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happens After the OQLF Registration?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the results of your self-evaluation, the OQLF may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>issue a francization certificate if the use of French is sufficiently widespread within your organization; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>require you to develop and implement a francization program to strengthen the presence of French in your workplace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Should Qu\u00e9bec Employers Do Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the June 1 deadline approaching, it is crucial for employers to take proactive steps. Registration is only the first step.
