On January 13, 2022, the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing announced an investment of $10 million in new annual funding to the Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (the \u201cOAHS\u201d), along with Miziwe Biik Development Corporation. The fund aims to provide Indigenous-led, culturally appropriate long-term housing solutions and support services to Indigenous people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n

This is just the latest announcement as part of a continuing mandate for OAHS to lead the planning, development and delivery of sustainable and affordable new housing units to be located in several communities across Ontario. These developments will offer new rental and ownership opportunities to self-identifying First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit people as well as non-Indigenous people within the area.<\/p>\n

OAHS is a non-profit organization currently serving over 11,000 people every day, right across Ontario, to ensure their unique housing needs are met.<\/p>\n

Miller Thomson is currently advising OAHS on a housing development in Sault Ste. Marie with a team comprised of Kristina Shaw (Corporate), Eric Laxton (Land Development) and Lori Goldberg (Construction).<\/p>\n
