Biography description

Taryn is completing his law degree at the University of Alberta, after earning a Bachelor of Commerce (with Distinction) from MacEwan University. Prior to law school, Taryn worked in the not-for-profit sector, helping to facilitate and develop financial literacy programs, cultural and language revitalization initiatives, and youth leadership and education workshops.

Taryn is actively involved in his law school community. He has served as Co-Chair of Special Events for the Indigenous Law Students’ Association, played on the Tortfeasors law hockey team, and performed as a cast member in the Law Show.

Taryn is a passionate advocate and volunteer for his community of Paddle Prairie Métis Settlement and for Indigenous people across Canada. Taryn has worked with the National Association of Friendship Centres, as well as organizations such as Global Indigenous Dialogue, Initiatives of Change, and Metis Nation of Alberta to provide supports and representation for Indigenous youth. Through his advocacy, Taryn has spoken on behalf of Indigenous youth at both a federal level and internationally. In recognition of his work to support his community, Taryn has received Spirit Seeker Awards for Leadership, Dedication to Culture and Community Building, as well as the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

In his spare time, Taryn enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and being outdoors.
