Biography description

Marlee rejoins Miller Thomson as an Articling Student after completing a summer placement with the firm in 2022, as well as a summer placement with the in-house counsel team of a large Edmonton-based construction company in 2023. Marlee obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2024. During law school, Marlee was recognized on the Dean’s List and received several academic excellence awards, including the Odishaw Family Prize in Mediation Advocacy, the Bernie Kelly QC Prize in Family Law, and the W Bernie Kelly QC Memorial Prize.

Before rejoining the firm to complete her articles, Marlee articled to Justice Susan L. Bercov at the Alberta Court of King’s Bench. Her experience includes editing for the Alberta Law Review, chairing the Faculty of Law’s Mental Health and Wellness Committee, volunteering with Student Legal Services, and participating in competitive moots. In her third year of law school, Marlee was also a Writing Fellow, teaching weekly seminars and evaluating first year law students’ assignments for the University of Alberta’s Legal Research and Writing course.

Prior to law school, Marlee received her Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction in Marketing and Business Economics from the University of Alberta. During her undergraduate degree, Marlee participated in case competitions and completed her Certificate in Sustainability. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Chacala, Mexico and International Student Volunteers in Brits, South Africa. 

Beyond her legal pursuits, Marlee enjoys reading fantasy novels, walking her Aussie Shepherd, Casper, crocheting, and exercising—especially outdoors!
