The value of your Quebec property is assessed every three (3) years by the relevant assessing authority. Based on this triennial assessment cycle, you will be required to pay property taxes for your property for the following three (3) years.
The notices of assessment for Quebec properties included in the 2020-2021-2022 assessment cycle have been issued to all property owners and/or tenants informing them of the new value attributed to their property.
Quebec law allows property owners and tenants to contest the assessment of their property, subject to respecting the applicable administrative review process and deadlines provided by law.
In order to successfully complete the administrative review process, you must meet all procedural conditions provided for by law, such as:
- Filing of an administrative review request on April 30, 2020, at the latest;
- Using the appropriate form to file the administrative review request;
- Paying the exact amount of applicable fees to institute the review, based on the value of the property;
- Stating all valuation and legal arguments that may be relevant to contest the assessment.
