Lisa Smart is an Associate in the Regina office of Miller Thomson. She has a litigation practice that is focused predominantly on family law.
Lisa is a strong advocate, with experience representing clients in Traffic Court, Provincial Court, Small Claim’s Court, and at the Court of Queen’s Bench. She has also appeared on behalf of clients before various administrative tribunals, such as the Labour Relations Board and the Highway Traffic Board.
Lisa offers her clients the skills and knowledge necessary to assist them in moving forward following the breakdown of a relationship or marriage, and to resolve the related legal issues. She recognizes the benefit of resolving family conflict through negotiation and collaboration as an alternative to court, and works to find an equitable solution to meet each of her client’s specific emotional and economic needs. Lisa practices in all areas of family law, including: separation/divorce, custody and access, spousal and child support, equalization of property, and the negotiation and drafting of separation agreements, prenuptial agreements and inter-spousal contracts.
In addition to family law, Lisa also practices in the areas of general civil and corporate litigation.
Lisa attained her BBA from the University of Regina in 2013, where she majored in Finance, and her JD from the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. Prior to joining the Miller Thomson team, Lisa was a sole practioner, working in the areas of family and criminal law. She articled with the Ministry of Justice in Saskatchewan, where she had the opportunity to rotate through the Civil Law, Constitutional Law, and Public Prosecutions branches of the Ministry, in addition to clerking at the Court of Queen’s Bench. Lisa also spent a number of years working for the RCMP “F” Division prior to the commencement of her legal career, during which time she gained extensive experience assisting clients working through high stress/high conflict situations.
