Erika Lai is an associate in Miller Thomson’s Securities and Capital Markets and Corporate/M&A groups. She has experience in public offerings, private placements, corporate governance, ongoing compliance and other corporate transactions. Erika works with other team members to ensure efficient and effective responses to client specific needs. She has worked with a variety of clients, including private companies, public companies and securities underwriters and agents.
Erika brings a diverse perspective to her legal work derived from her experience in both the public and private sector prior to joining Miller Thomson. She worked at the constituency office of a member of Parliament in the Greater Vancouver Area and at the City of Ottawa Legal Services. She has also accumulated experience abroad at the Hong Kong office of an international law firm. Together with her language skills, Erika is able effectively help clients achieve their business needs in a cross-cultural and cross-sector environment.
Erika joined Miller Thomson as an articled student after completing her J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa where she was an active member of the law school community. She was the president of the International Trade Law Students Association, members of various school organizations and earned an honourable mention at the Nelligan Payne O’Brien Moot. During her summers, Erika travelled extensively and worked at a variety of organizations, taking part in a summer socio-economic study tour in Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2010 and spending a summer at the advocacy department of a public policy think tank in Hong Kong.
