Overview
Annie Alport is a Partner in Miller Thomson’s Calgary office. Annie is a litigator with significant experience and a strong interest in administrative law. Annie’s caseload includes cases involving hospital liability, public health enforcement, constitutional law, education, governance, privacy, professional regulatory matters, regulatory defence, and general civil litigation.
Annie has acted for a broad range of clients in the health, education, and not-for-profit sectors. Her litigation experience is diverse and spans across two provinces. She has appeared before various administrative tribunals, in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan. She also appears regularly in Provincial Court for her work in public health enforcement.
Annie has considerable experience working with Alberta’s Health Professions Act, Health Information Act, Public Health Act, Provincial Offences Procedure Act, Personal Directives Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Personal Information Protection Act. Annie also has a strong understanding of the federal Access to Information Act and Federal Court Procedures.
Annie began her legal career in Calgary after clerking at the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan. She received her J.D. from the University of Saskatchewan in 2013 with distinction, earning the silver medal in her graduating year, and was called to the Alberta bar in 2014. After working at another national law firm for two years, Annie worked as a Crown Prosecutor for the Province of Alberta in Fort McMurray. She is licensed to practice in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
