Bloomberg has published its M&A and capital markets league tables for 2017 and Miller Thomson leads the rankings by a number of key measures.*
Miller Thomson was ranked #1 for Canadian M&A, having been credited with the most Canadian M&A deals (140) as well as the most Canadian mid-market M&A deals attributed to any law firm globally. Furthermore, Miller Thomson led all Canadian law firms for the number of global mid-market M&A deals and was the only Canadian law firm listed in the top 20.
The firm also attained a top result in the capital markets league tables, having advised the manager on 20 Canadian IPO offerings. This was almost three times as many mandates as the second ranked law firm.
Bernard Blouin, Chair of Miller Thomson’s Business Group, commented: “2017 marked an extraordinary year for our team and we were honored to be the firm of choice of our clients to help them build, grow and in some cases restructure their companies. And it is not just this last year; we ranked among the top 3 law firms for the number of Canadian M&A deals in each of the past 8 consecutive quarters. Our Business Group is well positioned to advance our clients’ ambitions in the year ahead.”
Jay Hoffman, leader of the firm’s Corporate, M&A and Securities practice groups, added: “It has been a busy year for our group. Through 2017 we continued to see robust mid-market M&A activity, both domestic and cross-border, across many sectors with a marked increase in the number of US private equity engagements. As the year unfolded, we also saw an increase in the flow of capital markets transactions. Overall, we significantly increased our deal activity over what was a very good 2016.”
