October 19, 2018 | James M. Klotz | Toronto

James M. Klotz, a Miller Thomson partner, has been elected to the office of Vice-President of the International Bar Association. The announcement was made at the IBA’s 2018 annual conference. He is the first Canadian to hold this position in over 25 years.

“The IBA has in James a thoughtful and insightful advocate for our profession,” says Miller Thomson Chair Kent Davidson. “His passion for the rule of law and demonstrated thought leadership will significantly advance the interests of the IBA and its members.”

Mr. Klotz begins his 2-year term as Vice-President in January 2019. He will continue his oversight of the Task Force on the Future of Legal Services while working with the IBA’s various committees in advancing the organization’s strategic priorities.

“As lawyers, we are reminded daily of the enormous impact of the technological and other changes that our profession is experiencing,” Klotz states. “At the same time, in the face of rising global populism, we must ensure that the rule of law is understood and protected in every society. I am honoured to serve at such a pivotal time in our profession.”
