Miller Thomson LLP is proud to announce that senior commercial and insolvency litigator Hubert Sibre has joined the firm’s Montréal office as partner. This latest addition to Miller Thomson’s growing Montréal team broadens the firm’s corporate finance, securities and commercial litigation capabilities in Quebec and across Canada.

Hubert Sibre has represented numerous clients before all levels of Canada’s judicial court system, arbitration boards and other decision-making bodies, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He is regularly involved in high-risk transactions and negotiations in Canada and abroad. His experience, paired with his well-regarded business judgment, positions him well to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs in Quebec and outside the province.

“Hubert’s arrival at Miller Thomson is a further step for what is already one of the strongest teams of commercial litigators in Canada,” said Pierre Paquet, Managing Partner of Miller Thomson’s Montréal office. “His experience, pedigree and reputation are a boost to the premium M&A, tax and litigation services we provide to businesses in Quebec and beyond.”

In 2012, Hubert Sibre successfully represented a client before the Supreme Court of Canada on a high-profile false advertising case citing Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act. While based on Quebec consumer protection law, the Court’s decision has since informed how other courts and regulators across Canada deal with misleading advertising cases.

Hubert Sibre is involved on a number of community-based charitable activities. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for L’Oeuvre du Père Sablon, a not-for-profit organization focused on helping young people from all walks of life achieve their goals through sports and recreational activities. He is also the Founder of La Ruche, Quebec’s leading proximity crowdfunding platform for social, economic and cultural projects.

Hubert Sibre will be chairing the upcoming Open Forum Conference on Finance and Securities, taking place in Montréal in June 2017.

Miller Thomson’s Montréal office has seen the addition of Lampros Stougiannos (corporate commercial and construction law), Claude Picard (transactional and financing), and Francis Trifiro (banking and financial services) to its business law practice in the past 24 months.
