Miller Thomson is pleased and honoured to congratulate Mr. Justice Russell Brown, former associate counsel in the firm’s Edmonton office, on his appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Justice Brown became associated with Miller Thomson in 2007 while an Associate Professor and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta. He was of tremendous assistance in a number of complex litigation cases in which the firm was involved.
“Mr. Justice Brown brings to the court wide experience as a law professor and legal scholar, a barrister, and a judge at both the trial court and appellate levels,” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday. “His appointment is the result of broad consultations with prominent members of the legal community and we are confident he will be a strong addition to Canada’s highest court.”
Justice Brown was appointed to the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in 2013 and to the Alberta Court of Appeal in 2014. His appointment to the Supreme Court is effective August 31.
The members of the firm wish him the very best in this new phase of a most distinguished legal career.
