The New Societies Act in British Columbia: What You Need to Know

September 22, 2016 | Brendan Burns, Sarah Fitzpatrick | Vancouver

On November 28, 2016, the new British Columbia Societies Act comes into force. Our Social Impact Group presents a complimentary seminar where we discuss what you need to know about the new Act, highlight some of the significant changes, and ensure your organization is prepared for the transition.

8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. – Breakfast and Registration
8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Presentation

The new Societies Act replaces the current British Columbia Society Act which sets the rules for the creation and governance of societies in the province.

The new Act modernizes the regime by introducing changes intended to allow societies to operate more effectively and efficiently. At the same time, it introduces new governance and accountability measures aimed at protecting the public interest. British Columbia societies have two years to transition under the new Act.
