Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace: New WorkSafeBC Rules

October 18, 2013 | Nicole Byres, Valerie Dixon, M. Ashley Mitchell | Vancouver

In 2012, the BC Workers Compensation Act was amended to broaden compensation available to employees for mental disorders caused by work related stress, including bullying and harassment.  Effective November 1, 2013, WorkSafe BC requires all employers to have policies and procedures in place to address workplace bullying.

In this seminar we explain these requirements and provide you with the tools to help ensure that your organization is ready for the new rules.

  • Overview of the 2012 changes to the Act: definition of compensable “mental disorder”; inclusion of bullying & harassment as a significant work related stressor
  • WorkSafe BC claims experience & trends since July 1, 2012
  • November 1, 2013 – WorkSafe BC Policy overview: definition of bullying & harassment; requirements for employers, supervisors & workers
  • Compliance Tool-kit for Employers – draft policies and checklist
