Royal Mail acquires Canadian freight Rosenau for $360 million

December 1, 2021

On December 1, 2021, General Logistics Systems (“GLS”), a subsidiary of Britain’s Royal Mail, completed its acquisition of Mid-Nite Sun Transportation, which operates as Rosenau Transport (“Rosenau”) for $360 million. The transaction gives GLS Canada both a national network and a link to existing operations on the U.S. West Coast.

Rosenau is one of Alberta’s most prominent carriers with 24 facilities across four provinces. Fleet services include Less-than-Truckload, truckload, bulk, hot shot, consolidation, overnight service, decks, container chassis, heated vans, and scheduled deliveries.

Rosenau’s network will move to a combined GLS freight and parcel model. Synergies are also expected by selling freight and parcel services through Rosenau’s network, including cross-border services.

Miller Thomson advised Rosenau and its shareholders in the transaction with a team comprised of Kevin Trumpour, Brendon Ho, Nizar Dahrouge (Corporate M&A/Tax); Eric Dufour, Reema Mahbubani (Competition Law) and Tom Duke (Employment).
