Genesa is excited to return to Miller Thomson as an articling student. This past year, Genesa graduated with high distinction from the University of Ottawa’s Common Law Faculty. Prior to summering and articling at Miller Thomson, Genesa worked as a first year law student at a boutique litigation firm in Toronto.
During her time at the University of Ottawa, Genesa developed a passion for social justice initiatives within her local community. In her first year of law school, Genesa volunteered as a court reporter with Pro Bono Ontario. She collected data on court proceedings involving unrepresented individuals to determine better ways to reduce barriers to legal representation.
In her second year, Genesa was a student caseworker at Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, where she assumed carriage of legal files for low-income residents and students. In addition, Genesa worked as Duty Counsel at the Landlord and Tenant Tribunal in Ottawa. Through this role, Genesa provided legal advice to self-represented tenants. Throughout law school Genesa was also a legal writing mentor for the University of Ottawa’s Legal Writing Academy, where she worked with fellow law students to improve their written advocacy skills. Genesa hopes to continue using her legal education to support access to justice initiatives in her community.
In her free time, Genesa enjoys keeping active, traveling to new destinations, cooking, and spending quality time with her dogs, Cali and Cosmo.
