Biography
Peter Lauwers practises law with the Markham firm of Miller Thomson. His practice focuses on administrative law, with particular emphasis on education law, labour relations, human rights issues, and municipal planning and zoning.
In connection with his labour law practice, Peter has conducted grievance arbitrations, mediations and interest arbitrations both as counsel and as nominee. He has acted as counsel in advising on negotiations and in drafting collective agreement language, and has served as chief negotiator. He has acted as consultant to the Ontario Government respecting changes to labour laws. Peter has also handled claims of sexual harassment, sexual abuse and human rights complaints on behalf of employers.
Peter has appeared in every level of court including the Divisional Court of Ontario in respect of judicial review, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada. He has participated in alternate dispute resolution measures, arbitrations and mediations.
Peter has written and spoken widely in his areas of specialization.
Born in Toronto in 1953, he received his call to the Bar in 1980 after graduating from the University of Toronto in 1978. He also received a Masters degree in law from York University's Osgoode Hall Law School in 1983.
Peter has been on the boards of a number of organizations.
