Jennifer Babe and Andy Chan appointed to Ontario Business Law Advisory Council

The Government of Ontario has established a new Business Law Advisory Council that will make recommendations to reform laws that are both responsive to changing business priorities and supportive of a prosperous economy.

Appointees Jennifer Babe and Andy Chan become members of this new advisory council which is composed of professionals who have demonstrated expertise in commercial and corporate law.   Both Miller Thomson partners will serve an initial term of up to 18 months, after which they may be re-appointed to an additional term that concludes after 3 years of service on the council.

Jennifer Babe practises in the area of corporate/commercial law, focusing on secured transactions, the securing of sales and leases of significant products and the purchases of businesses, assets and shares.  She has been consistently ranked a leading lawyer in the areas of banking and corporate mid-market law by Lexpert, and holds a distinguished AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer rating that acknowledges professional excellence in a lawyer’s legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.

Andy Chan’s specialized global cross-border practice includes providing counsel to international and domestic clients on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, investments, structurings and financings. He is also Co-Chair of the International Business Transactions Group, and National Chair of the firm’s Asia Practice. A recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contributions to Canada, Andy was also named a Leading Canadian Corporate Lawyer to Watch by Lexpert magazine and is a past winner of the Lexpert Rising Star Award – Top Canadian Lawyers under 40.
