On April 6, 2017, Markel Canada, the Toronto-based subsidiary of Markel International, announced that it had acquired the remaining 50% stake in Allsport Insurance Marketing Ltd. The seller was Sport BC, a non-profit sports federation.
Allsport is an incorporated managing general agent (MGA) specializing in providing insurance to Canadians for sports, leisure and recreation activities. It was founded in 1987 and has been part owned by Markel since 1997.
Miller Thomson advised Sport BC in this transaction with a team that included Brendan Burns and Blair Lowther.
