Practice Support Lawyer - Knowledge Management

We are seeking a Practice Support Lawyer to join the Knowledge Management team in our Toronto office. In this role, you are the valued point of contact to facilitate Library/Research, Knowledge Management and Marketing requests for the firm’s Practice Group/s as designated. You will work with, and take direction from, assigned Practice Chairs and Partners, taking initiatives from inception to realization. You will also work with other Administrative Departments, to deliver support for practice group needs.
In this role, your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Overseeing relevant Practice Group/s portions of KM Precedent and Model Document collection.
- Supporting the firm’s Legal Project Management (LPM) initiative and developing innovative tools to further efficiency, i.e. drafting Knowledge Trees, etc.
- Supporting business development activities, i.e., providing input for RFP pursuits, preparing company profiles and client target lists, etc.
- Developing and implementing strategic marketing and business development plans and programs to support practice group specific business development objectives
- Supporting annual practice group business development plans by tracking initiatives through all stages to completion and monitoring expenditures.
- Monitoring and keeping track of market and industry research to identify client and business development opportunities.
- Meeting with lawyers to identify relevant resources and tools to keep them better informed about industries, clients, legislative and case law developments, etc.
- Providing additional support to Practice Support professionals to fulfill LPM and KM requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
As a trusted advisor to Practice Chairs, and Partners, in driving overall strategic goals, our ideal candidate is:
- A practicing lawyer in Canada.
- Fluent in French (an asset).
- Has seven or more years of related work experience at a national law firm in a Professional Development, KM or practice innovation role.
- A strategic thinker who will not only advise Practice Groups, but be involved in planning, overseeing and managing initiatives.
- Unafraid to roll up their sleeves and help the team meet deadlines.
- Process driven, with excellent project and time management skills.
- Able to work comfortably in teams, and/or independently.
- Dedicated to providing quality service and consistently exceeding expectations.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines, while ensuring efficiency, accuracy and quality deliverables.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships, and be an effective listener and influencer.
- A polished presenter with exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent legal research skills.
- Exceptionally detail oriented and a highly organized self-starter.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Lotus Notes and Interaction (CRM) is an asset.
