I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a summer and articled student at Miller Thomson. The work was interesting, challenging and varied, and I gained experience in a number of different practice areas.
I had the opportunity to learn from many different lawyers who have different styles and approaches to the practice of law. I consistently felt that the people I worked with genuinely cared about my growth and development as a lawyer. I had considerable direct contact with both individual and corporate clients, and really enjoyed this aspect of practice. I have had the opportunity to do work for the majority of the lawyers at the

2009/2010 Articling Student, CalgaryMy experiences summering and articling with Miller Thomson have provided me with exposure to a wide variety of practice areas through a student rotation.
This has allowed me to get a feel for the work of both solicitors and litigators to be able to determine which areas interest me the most. Students are given the opportunity to enjoy a truly hands-on articling term through drafting a variety of pleadings and correspondence and taking carriage of Small Claims files. Additionally, I have gained valuable experience both in the courtroom and in dealing directly with clients.
Miller Thomson is committed to training and mentoring students through offering a wide range of seminars and by having a true “open-door policy.” The lawyers are all extremely approachable and genuinely interested in helping students gain knowledge and experience whether through feedback on work, bringing students to observe court appearances, or talking about career questions and concerns. Their support has allowed me to develop as a student and prepared me for a rewarding legal career.

Throughout the two hectic days of Toronto interviews, I found it quite difficult to distinguish one firm from another. I chose Miller Thomson because of the people.
